Designer Diaries: Model Assignments

Hello again! It's been a few weeks since my last post, but I've been hard at work! Editing the vids takes time, so I've been putting that energy into making progress on the collection (and taking footage for that as well)! In my last video, I mentioned the waiting game for the model roster release. This entry picks up from receiving the roster, and fills you in on the actions to obtain models and assign them outfits! Much of this process is done via email and on the computer, so I didn't include every step in the video -- it would bore you!

I will mention this in the video, but from the release date of the roster, I filled my model team within 4 days! Day 1 is primarily determining which models (by number) to request contact information on. Once we are sent the contacts for the models we've requested, it's game on, and the email frenzy begins! I received the roster on the Friday of 'Fourth of July Weekend,' so no matter what my family was doing on our weekend holiday vacation, I was working on booking models (at dinner, in the resort room, on the boat, etc)! Personally, I find this to be the most stressful part of the process. Though many models are booked prior to the roster release (repeat designers such as myself will book those we've worked with in the past prior to the release of the roster, pending their approval from KCFW), there are many talented professional and aspiring models to choose from. I prefer to book as if I'm racing the clock, but with careful thought and preparation. The quicker I book a full team, the quicker I can get to work on my designs, with accurate measurements! I am thrilled with the team of ladies I have for this season, as always!

There is a lot of data to review when deciding on models to book: look, walk, hair (based on what I have as a vision for hair/makeup to enhance my collection), reliability (which has to often be researched), body measurements, tattoos and piercings, age, etc. I refer to my design aesthetic as "sophisticated elegance," thus it is important for me to find models that have a look AND walk that will portray that 'vibe'. Once I've booked all of my models (which occurred during a family dinner on the following Monday), it's time to assign each model to an outfit!

Hebrews 10:24-25 And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, 25 not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.
