Model Castings
I'm back again with another entry! In my last post, you saw a behind the scenes look at the process of making patterns. In this entry, you'll get to see the process the KCFW committee, designers, and models go through for the first step in model selection. Two model castings are held on two separate weekends in Kansas City, Missouri. Experienced and aspiring models can apply online in advance or on-site. In order to model for KCFW, all potential models MUST attend castings, and be approved by KCFW in order to walk for their shows. This process has been very exciting for me this season, as it is the first season I've had the ability to attend castings, live. What goes on at castings? Watch and find out! I explain the process in the video. (FYI--the models pace changes in this video are for artistic effect, and duration purposes.)
After castings, the KCFW committee will determine who made the model roster, and is approved to walk for KCFW designers. At the same time, the show schedule is being finalized as well. Designers typically receive the model roster and the designer schedule around the same time. I personally find the model selection process to be the most nerve-wracking. Models can make or break the design. I've had the pleasure of working with some wonderfully talented girls the past three seasons, and I'm confident this year will be no exception. Now that castings have ended, we wait for the roster to be compiled and released. As soon as I receive it, I immediately review the measurements and model numbers. I then reflect on my notes and will make my selections. This selection process of planning and booking models will be featured in a future video diary entry, so stay tuned!
